Public Safety, Tree Trimming, and Happy Fourth!

At our last city council meeting, we discussed ways to maximize our budget to benefit Artesia residents. It is with great pleasure that I share with you insight on the recent developments that we have in motion.

Public safety is a great deal to me as I sit on the Public Safety Committee and I continue my advocacy in making Artesia a safe and thriving community.

Therefore, I invite you to read some monthly highlights and also explore some of the great events Artesia has to offer.

In Solidarity,

Ali Taj

Doubling Down On Sheriffs, Increasing Public Safety

The City of Artesia has garnered additional resources that benefit our local Sheriffs department as Artesia’s budget is showing promising signs that have directly resulted in an increase of more public safety and security. Artesia resident benefits this upcoming fiscal year include: increasing SAO deputies by 100%, increased traffic regulation, increased crime prevention, an on call Sheriff vehicle, and ramping up Artesia Neighborhood Watch.

Artesia Trees Receive Arbor Care

Tree Trimming

We have the pleasure to share that Artesia has tree-trimming maintenance happening across all Districts. Districts that have been completed include District 1 (North of Artesia) and District 2 (Gridley, Artesia, Pioneer and 183rd streets). District 3 will be commencing this month and Districts 4 & 5 will be completed by the end of the year. Please use caution when encountering maintenance crews as safety for all is our #1 priority.

Funds Allocated to Reconstruct Norwalk Blvd.

The Council and I have successfully achieved our goal in acquiring the funds necessary to commence our plan of reconstructing Norwalk Blvd. At the moment we have allocated the necessary resources to move forward onto the design and engineering stage that should be completed soon. Construction is necessary to allow an increased flow of traffic.

Save The Date- City Council Meeting!

Join us for the next city council meeting on Monday, July 9 at 7pm located on 18747 Clarkdale Ave, Artesia, CA 90701 to get further informed on current and prospective Artesia developments. I sure hope to see you there to get your input and answer any questions you may have; because with inclusion, we can thrive together! Make sure to review our city council agenda before the meeting.

Community Loss

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to my dear friend’s family- and may his soul rest in peace. The city of Artesia has lost a great community leader, former mayor, council member, and my good long-time friend, John “Johnny” Carlos Martins on the morning of June 15, 2018. Although it is with great sadness that I report his passing- his leadership and interest in our community lives on forever; especially for his roles in the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Los Angeles and service as the President of the Artesia Divino Espirito Santo (D.E.S.) Portuguese Hall, a non-profit organization whose main goal is to promote Portuguese traditions and heritage through diversifying activities. He is survived by his wife, Karen Martins, their sons, Cole and Kyle, and his daughter Chelsea. Mr. Martins will be greatly missed by our colleagues, and the rest of the Artesia community.
